May 15 use tax due date
The extended due date for filing use tax returns is May 15. However, we have been told that some taxpayers who faxed registration applications after April 15 have not yet received account and login information.
According to the BOE, applications should be processed within seven to ten business days. If an account number isn't issued to the taxpayer after ten business days, then they should call the BOE district office where they sent/faxed the registration application to follow up.
If the BOE district office has processed the application, it is likely that they will be able to provide the account number and express login information over the phone. If the BOE locates the application at the time the taxpayer inquiry is made, it will be processed with priority.
If the BOE can't locate the application, you must submit another application.
A second application should not be submitted without first calling the BOE at the office where the application was submitted. Submitting a second application without trying to ascertain what happened to the first application has the potential for creating additional work for the practitioner to resolve if both applications are processed and the BOE creates two accounts. According to the BOE, once they have been contacted, they will advise the caller how to best proceed to obtain the account number and file.
If you do not have an account number, the BOE suggests you file a paper return with no account number and include an application with the return and extension request.
