FTB has $17 million in undelivered refunds
The FTB is holding $17 million in undelivered refunds — ranging from $1 to $39,000. Refunds are usually returned because the taxpayer changed addresses after filing the return.
A taxpayer who did not receive a refund may check the status of the refund at: www.ftb.ca.gov/online/refund/index.asp
Taxpayers will need the following to check the status of a 2010 California personal income tax refund:
- Social Security number;
- Mailing address. If the taxpayer’s address has changed since filing the return, he or she should update the address online;
- The refund amount shown on the tax return; and
- A compatible browser and operating system.
The FTB will reissue returned refunds automatically once a new address is received. MyFTB Account is the fastest and easiest method to update an address. Otherwise, taxpayers may call the FTB at (800) 852-5711 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The FTB recommends making sure that the most recent address is on file with the FTB, or using direct deposit to avoid a refund being returned if a taxpayer’s address has changed.
