FTB mailed late notices
In late December 2007 and again in early January 2008, the FTB mailed various bills and other notices late, not giving enough time for taxpayers to respond. According to the FTB, about 50,000 notices were mailed between a few days and a few weeks late. For example, some taxpayers received bills on December 26 to be paid no later than December 31.
The FTB stated, "We are, of course, aware of the problem and are working with taxpayers on an individual basis. Since we have no way of knowing who these notices went to, we are counting on taxpayers to contact us and let us help to remedy any negative impacts as a result of our error."
If any of your clients received a notice from the FTB and didn't have enough time to respond, please contact the Tax Practitioners' Hotline at (916) 845-7057.
