SOS will no longer certify certain copies of filed documents
Beginning December 29, 2009, the Secretary of State will only certify copies of documents that include all required attachments. The SOS will continue to certify two copies of filed documents free of charge, but all copies must now duplicate the original, including any attachments like good standing certificates, consent letters, attorney general letters, etc. The SOS will return any incomplete copies and business entities will then need order them from the SOS’s Records Counter or the Information Retrieval and Certification (Mail) Unit.
Also, beginning January 1, 2010, the SOS will not return any incomplete dissolution or cancellation documents. If you do not submit copies, but want a certified or plain copy of the dissolution/cancellation document, include such a request at the time you submit the dissolution/cancellation document, along with the appropriate certification/copy fee.
You may check a business entity’s status at http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/; and you may check the SOS’s mail processing times at www.sos.ca.gov/business/be/mail-processing-times.htm.
