Client paid $9,600 to an attorney for business legal services. Should we use 1099-NEC or use 1099-Misc box 10?

      Thanks.

I would think if has a tax id# (not ssn) use 1099-MISC, if an individual with ssn as tax id, use 1099-NEC

For legal service provided to your client, you should use 1099-NEC regardless of whether SSN or FED ID is provided.

1099 MISC is for gross proceeds paid to attorneys. This is usually when money is paid to the attorney for trust fund money/settlements.
