EDD Disaster Unemployment Assistance benefits

Californians in Kern, Mariposa, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties who were impacted by the severe winter storms, straight-line winds, and mudslides that started on February 1, 2023, are now eligible for federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits. (EDD News Release No. 23-15 (April 14, 2023))

DUA is offered to victims of federally-declared disasters. The EDD administers DUA benefits, which are available to workers, business owners, and self-employed individuals who lost their jobs or businesses, or had their work hours reduced or interrupted due to the severe storms.

DUA applies to losses beginning the week of February 26, 2023. The last payable week ends October 7, 2023. Applications for this DUA benefit must be filed by May 15, 2023, unless the individual has good cause to file a late application.
