FTB mail delays - Spidell

FTB mail delays

Yesterday, one of our customers contacted us because they called the FTB Practitioner Hotline about a client’s check that had not been cashed, and they were informed that due to mail issues the FTB had not posted payments for about a two-week period. We contacted the FTB, and they stated:

“On Tuesday, July 9, the FTB received approximately 115,000 estimate and other payments with dates mostly between June 5 and June 20. We anticipate scanning these payments today and they will be posted with a timely date of June 15, 2019.”

This means your clients who mailed estimate payments around those dates may be contacting you to check on their payments. We suggest you tell them not to stop payment on the check, but allow additional time for the FTB to process it. The FTB is expediting the processing, but it could take up to 14 business days for the checks to clear your clients’ bank accounts.

If your client has already stopped payment on the check and sent a new one, we assume the FTB will deem it timely filed as of the original mailing date.
