Furloughed federal workers eligible for unemployment benefits

The Governor has announced that furloughed federal workers are immediately eligible for unemployment benefits.1 Claims may be backdated to the week when an employee was first impacted by the shutdown but no earlier than Sunday, December 23, 2018 (the first week of the shutdown).

Employees who receive unemployment benefits and later receive retroactive back pay from the federal government will be required to repay their unemployment benefits to the EDD.
