IRS sign-in via ID.me is on the horizon

Beginning May 17, 2023, the IRS will no longer support the use of existing IRS usernames to access e-Services. If you do not have an ID.me account, you must create a new account to access this service. ID.me is an account created, maintained, and secured by a private technology provider.

The move to ID.me will also affect any users of the IRS’s:

  • Income Verification Express Service (IVES);1 and
  • Qualified Intermediary, Withholding Foreign Partnership, Withholding Foreign Trust Application and Account Management System (QAAMS).2

Starting May 17, the modernized QAAMS sign-in system will require users to use Login.gov or ID.me to create log-in credentials. Users’ new credentials should contain the same first name, last name, and e-mail account as their current IRS credentials. QAAMS users do not need a taxpayer identification number to access QAAMS.
