More wildfire victims eligible for state filing extensions

The FTB has announced that taxpayers in Governor-declared disaster areas have also been granted an extension to December 15, 2020 to file their California tax return on 2019 income and make any tax payments that would have been due between October 7, 2020 and December 15, 2020. This relief is similar to the IRS and FTB relief previously granted to taxpayers located in federally-declared disaster areas.

The relief specifically applies to:

  • Individual filers whose previous tax filing extension is on extension to October 15, 2020 (payment deadlines are not extended because payments were already due July 15, 2020); and
  • Business entities with a due date between now and December 15. This would include:
    • Calendar year-corporate taxpayers whose extended due date is October 15, 2020; and
    • Calendar year exempt entities who were on extension until November 15, 2020.

The FTB is granting relief to taxpayers in the following counties. Any counties added later to the disaster area will be granted the same extension of time to follow.

Butte Monterey Shasta
Del Norte Napa Siskiyou
Fresno Nevada Solano
Lake San Bernardino Sonoma
Los Angeles San Diego Stanislaus
