The Board of Equalization reminds property owners affected by this year’s wildfires that they may be eligible for property tax relief. (BOE News Release No. NR 20-08 (December 3, 2020))
Affected properties in Governor-proclaimed disaster areas may qualify for property tax relief if the loss estimate is at least $10,000 of the current market value of the property.
To qualify, the taxpayer must file a claim with the county assessor’s office within 12 months from the date of damage or the time specified in their county’s ordinance, whichever is later.
