Retirement Distribution Strategies (August 11)
Tuesday, August 11
10:00 a.m. to Noon Pacific Time
Retirement distribution rules have changed. Two major legislative actions as well as IRS administrative changes have shaken the rules we have grown familiar with the last 40+ years. This session will review the basic provisions and incorporate recent changes, some permanent, some valid for only year 2020.
- The December 2019 Secures Act changed the age retirement distributions must start and the period over which distributions must be made
- The March 2020 CARES Act permits a pass on taking RMDs for 2020, and penalty free loans for those impacted by COVID-19
- IRS allows “do overs” through August 31, 2020 for those who took RMDs earlier this year, and now want to change their decision
- Bottom line: The government has found a way to get their share of your retirement accounts faster and at higher tax rates
