Fraud Friday: Blast from the past

Blast from the past: A veteran agent with the CA Bureau of Narcotic organized the biggest drug theft from a CA police agency, conspiring with two others to swipe 650 pounds of cocaine from the agency’s Riverside office over the 1997 Fourth of July weekend. The steal had an estimated street value of $3 million. The agent was caught a year later in an unrelated drug bust involving his girlfriend, who immediately turned him in. The first jury deadlocked on the drug charges but convicted him of filing a false tax return; a second trial resulted in a life sentence with no parole.
